Newcastle United could once again raid Brentford for striker in January with Brazilian tipped to leave
Newcastle United took Yoane Wissa from Brentford for £55 million in the summer after the DR Congo striker went on strike to force through a move.
There may well be a touch of bitterness there from the London club for how things went down, but they will no doubt be getting some satisfaction from the fact that Wissa is yet to kick a ball for the Newcastle United first team after picking up an injury on international duty just days after signing for his new club.
If the latest report from Caught Offside holds any truth, though, that bitterness could return in January.
Newcastle are thought to be one of three Premier League clubs looking to sign their in-form striker Igor Thiago in the winter window.
Newcastle, Tottenham and Aston Villa are all keen on Brentford's Igor Thiago
The Brazilian has been on Newcastle's radar for a while, and the Magpies even scouted him before his move to Brentford, but with 11 goals in 13 games this season, he's attracting plenty of attention.
Newcastle, Aston Villa and Tottenham are all said to be keen on the 24-year-old, and it's thought that Brentford are bracing themselves for big bids in January, according to a Caught Offside source.
“Newcastle, Spurs and Villa are strongly interested after closely scouting Igor Thiago. Even Brentford know now that they’re highly likely to receive tempting offers for him when the transfer window opens again.”
We can't see Newcastle pulling off a deal for Igor Thiago in January
An unnamed source is usually a red flag, but a direct quote lends a touch of credibility to the story. We're still not 100% convinced, but there have been rumblings of Newcastle being keen on Igor Thiago.
It just feels like signing someone of Igor Thiago's talent in the form he's in in the middle of the season would be far too difficult to do.
We already know that Brentford are pretty fierce negotiators, forcing us to pay £55 million for a 29-year-old. Who knows what it would cost to take Igor Thiago off their hands in January? The report says around £40 million, but that seems low to us. Maybe in the summer, but not in January.
