Newcastle United are on the hunt for another striker once again, having walked away from a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool now look very likely to land the French forward after settling for Ekitike after finally coming to terms with the fact that Alexander Isak is not for sale.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are weighing up their next move with Brentford's Yoane Wissa being named as a top target for the Magpies.

However, Brentford's £50 million asking price, Wissa's age (turning 29 in September) and the fact that Brentford are still in talks with Manchester United over Bryan Mbeumo and are only willing to let one of Mbeumo or Wissa leave, it all seems like an uphill battle.

Alex Crook says Benjamin Sesko is an option for Newcastle

Newcastle do have other options, though, and one was even offered to them very recently. TalkSPORT's Alex Crook has spoken about how Benjamin Sesko could be an option for Newcastle, having kept an eye on the 22-year-old for a couple of years now.

“As we expected, they have now formally registered their interest with Frankfurt in Hugo Ekitike,

“I guess the question for Newcastle is, not just for their fans but Eddie Howe as well, is the best case scenario here that they keep Alexander Isak but miss out on another target in Hugo Ekitike.

“If that does happen and he ends up at Liverpool, I know Chelsea are watching Ekitike as well, Benjamin Sesko could be the next name on the list in terms of a striker target for Newcastle. He is someone who Eddie Howe has admired for a long time.”

Could Benjamin Sesko be Newcastle's surprise signing?

We've been saying that we think Newcastle will spring a surprise with a signing this summer, and Benjamin Sesko could be the one.

Newcastle have been keeping tabs on Benjamin Sesko for as long as they have Hugo Ekitike, and it has been very quiet about Newcastle making an approach. Arsenal were thought to be at the front of the queue before turning their attention to Viktor Gyokeres, but with them out of the way, Newcastle could make an approach to RB Leipzig.

His agent has already shopped him out to Newcastle as he seems determined to move this summer, but his asking price could be a stumbling block, with RB Leipzig demanding £78 million.

Newcastle were prepared to pay £70 million for Hugo Ekitike, so maybe they'd match it for Benjamin Sesko, as we know they won't pay the full asking price.
