Newcastle United's scouts have been scouring the globe for hot young talent that can be nurtured at the club and turned into future first-team stars.
Not only are Newcastle identifying these targets, the club are actually signing them, which was the step that we didn't really manage to take when Dan Ashworth was at the helm, as we saw many targets head to rival clubs.
Already under Paul Mitchell, Newcastle have signed Vakhtang Salia, Miodrag Pivas and Baran Yildiz, who are all very highly-rated youngsters.
In the summer, the Magpies will complete the signing of Antonio Cordero from Spanish La Liga 2 side Malaga, having beaten Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature, which is impressive when you consider we couldn't even land Matheus Franca ahead of Crystal Palace a couple of years ago.
Now, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo are reporting that the Magpies aren't done fishing in the La Liga 2 pond and have identified promising 18-year-old striker Christian Kofane as a potential signing.
The Albacete Balompié forward has bagged six goals and an assist in 15 outings this season, catching the eye of several clubs around Europe.
There's believed to be a £4.25 million release clause in Kofane's contract, which Newcastle could look to activate, but the club will likely try to negotiate first.
As with Cordero, Newcastle will have to beat out some top clubs with Atlético Madrid, Lille, Mónaco, Betis, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Villarreal all keen, as well as fellow Premier League sides Aston Villa and Manchester United.
It won't be an easy coup for Paul Mitchell, but after beating Barcelona and Real Madrid to Cordero, they should be feeling pretty confident about signing Kofane. Indeed, there's every chance the club could use Cordero's move to sell it to Kofane.
We're loving that the club are scooping up all of this young talent, we just hope we actually see some results from this hard work rather than the next time we see their names being when they're released from the club and everyone takes to Google to remind themselves of who they actually were.
