Newcastle United considering move for England midfielder who caused them immense problems recently
Newcastle United get linked with so many players that if we kept an eye on all of them, we would probably have enough data to build our own version of Football Manager.
There are players, though, who capture our interest following a transfer link, and we can't help but wonder 'what if?' when we see them in action.
Rayan Cherki and Abdukodir Khusanov were involved for Manchester City against Newcastle last night, both of whom were strongly linked with Newcastle before they moved to the Etihad. See also James Trafford.
All three were really good, and we couldn't help but imagine how much better our squad would be had fate had different ideas.
Newcastle missed out on Alex Scott in 2023, but he's back on their radar now
It was a similar story at the weekend when Newcastle came up against Bournemouth and an inspired Alex Scott, who was the architect of every positive thing the Cherries did.
Before his move to Bournemouth, Newcastle were reportedly very keen to land the former Bristol City star, but for whatever reason, didn't make the move.
It didn't take long for Scott to prove himself at the highest level, becoming a first-team regular under Andoni Iraola, and now Scott has recaptured Newcastle's interest, according to TEAMtalk.
Newcastle will face stiff competition for Alex Scott if they decide to make a move
Competition is high, though, with Aston Villa, Manchester City and Manchester United also keen, as are Tottenham, although their interest is said to have cooled recently after signing Conor Gallagher.
Bournemouth are keen to offer Scott a new deal, but they may find themselves having to fend off several of their Premier League rivals this year, especially if Andoni Iraola leaves the club as expected.
If Newcastle, and indeed any of the aforementioned clubs, are looking to make a move for Alex Scott, it's likely that they will wait until the summer before making a move for the 22-year-old. Scott ticks a lot of boxes in the Eddie Howe transfer book, and if there's a deal to be made, we can definitely see the Magpies being in the mix for him this summer.
