It is now being reported that Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are nearing an agreement on Anthony Elanga as the Magpies increase their offer to £55 million.

Both The Daily Mail and Fabrizio Romano have reported that a new bid has been placed by Newcastle after talks have been ongoing for a few days.

Newcastle's initial £45 million bid was rejected by Nottingham Forest with no counter, reaffirming their stance that they do not wish to sell Anthony Elanga.

Reports came out last week that another bid had been placed along with offers for James Trafford and João Pedro.

A deal for Anthony Elanga is edging closer

João Pedro has since joined Chelsea while talks continue for Trafford. Now, it seems as though progress is being made for Elanga, too.

The Mail reports that personal terms aren't expected to be an issue, much like with James Trafford, the hold-up is simply agreeing on a fee that's acceptable to both parties.

Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, claims that Newcastle are now pushing to get the deal done.

Newcastle fans' patience has been wearing thin

Newcastle fans have had to be extremely patient this summer as promises of spending and quick business seem a distant memory.

The resignation of Paul Mitchell and the impending exit of Darren Eales clearly haven't helped the recruitment situation, but it is starting to feel like progress is being made.

It's probably still going to take a few more days, but hopefully we'll have a new signing or two through the door soon.
