Bruno Guimaraes is a regular fixture in the Brazil starting XI, and he has recently revealed that he's playing alongside one of his idols for his country.

The Newcastle United captain has been speaking about the man who he identified as a huge influence on him when he first joined the Brazil national team.

Manchester United's Casemiro rolled back the years during the latest international break, dictating play through Brazil's midfield in the friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia.

Casemiro at one point looked finished at Man United, but he seems to have picked up a second wind from somewhere, and he's taken that form with him to international level.

Casemiro is only 33? I thought he was at least 36

Bruno Guimaraes says everyone at Brazil idolises Casemiro

Now, Bruno Guimaraes has told Globo Esporte just how much of an influence the former Real Madrid man has been on him over the years when asked what it is about Casemiro that he admires.

“Experience, titles… he’s a complete player.

“His career speaks for itself. In one of my first interviews with the national team, in 2020, when I arrived they asked if I was inspired by anyone in midfield, and I said his name, Casemiro.

“He’s also an idol there for everything he’s done, especially at Real Madrid, the five Champions League titles. A guy that everyone who plays in Brazilian midfield talks about, Casemiro is the guy we have to follow.”

Bruno's praise made me throw up in my mouth a bit

This one sticks in the throat a bit, I'm not going to lie. I don't particularly enjoy our lads talking about Manchester United players with such praise.

Casemiro is a legend of the game, there's no doubt about that, but more so from his days at Real Madrid, not so much at Man United.

Yes, I'm still bitter about Manchester United's dominance in the 90s, and no, I don't care what you think.
