Jason Tindall took over press duties on Friday morning for Newcastle United, admitting to the media that Eddie Howe had missed the past couple of days through illness.

While Tindall did say that it was very uncharacteristic for Howe to miss work and that the gaffer was really ill, he still expected Howe to be in the dugout on Sunday.

We aren't sure what exactly is wrong with Eddie Howe, but the club have confirmed today (Saturday) that he was admitted into hospital on Friday night.

It's therefore no surprise that the Newcastle gaffer will not be at the game against Manchester United on Sunday.

Newcastle United confirm Eddie Howe is currently in hospital undergoing tests

The statement from the club via their website says that Howe is still undergoing tests.

"The Magpies' head coach was admitted to hospital late on Friday evening having felt unwell for a number of days.

"Medical staff kept Eddie in hospital overnight for further tests, which are ongoing. He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care.

"Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery, and further updates will follow in due course.

"Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead the team at St. James' Park on Sunday, supported by the club's first team staff."

Do it for Eddie

It's not exactly the news you want to see at any time, especially not on the eve of a crucial game.

We're sure Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will instil a 'Do it for Eddie' attitude in the lads on Sunday.

We wish Eddie Howe well and hope for a speedy recovery. Three points for the gaffer tomorrow, please!
