Unlike Troy Deeney for the BBC and Alan Shearer for the Premier League, the WhoScored? Team of the Week is entirely stats-driven.

The football stats site uses their player ratings from every game to put together their Team of the Week so if a player ends up in their Team of the Week, you know they did something right.

It's no surprise to Newcastle United fans, but may be a surprise to those who saw Newcastle's possession stats from their second half against Southampton that the Magpies have a player in the WhoScored? Team of the Week.

Whereas the BBC had two defensive players in their Team of the Week, WhoScored? have gone with the Brazilian Beast who won the game for the Magpies.

Joelinton picked up a place in the WhoScored? TotW

Joelinton bagged the winning goal, but beyond that he was all over the pitch fighting for the cause, in fact, Newcastle United's official X account posted the clip that typified his entire game this morning - a gut-busting run from the edge of his own area to disposess villain Ben Brereton Diaz on the edge of Newacstle's box - and that was before they were down to 10 men.

"Joelinton (Newcastle) - 8.30

"Newcastle’s match-winner against Southampton on Saturday was midfielder Joelinton, who was on hand to punish the Saints after an error while attempting to play out from the back. In addition to his winning goal, the Brazilian also won eight duels, made two blocks, six clearances and three ball recoveries."

It cannot be overstated just how much we missed J7 last season when he was injured.

Will Alan Shearer pick any Newcastle players for his TotW?

We eagerly await what team Alan Shearer has gone with for his Team of the Week and whether or not he puts any Newcastle players in his.

He has to though, right? If the BBC and WhoScored have picked three between them, surely Shearer picks at least one.

Could he pick all three and get away with not being called biased? I doubt it.
