Not a day has gone by this summer without a report linking at least one of Newcastle United's top players with a move away from the club.

When all the summer transfer reporting really kicked into gear at the end of the season, a lot of the talk was about Bruno Guimaraes and who would activate his £100 million release clause, then attention turned to Alexander Isak and now it's all about Anthony Gordon.

Since Newcastle toyed with the idea of cashing in on Gordon by selling him to Liverpool to comply with PSR and stave off a potential points deduction, the media has been like a dog with a bone and will not let it go.

Anthony Gordon is still enjoying a bit of extended leave after warming the bench for England in the Euro 2024 final and is due to return to training next week.

Newcastle will offer Anthony Gordon a new contract

The Athletic are now claiming that Gordon will be pulled into the office when he returns to discuss a new deal as a reward for his excellent first full season at the club.

Newcastle are worried that Gordon has had his head turned by the Liverpool talk and may want to head back to Merseyside and are hoping that contract talks will put all that to bed.

Gordon grew up as a Liverpool fan and it would be no real shock that he would be interested in a move there, and after Newcastle 'offered' him to them, then why wouldn't his head be turned?

We believe we'll manage to hang on to AG10

Hopefully, all the talks go well and Gordon signs the new deal and we can put all of this behind us and move on.

We're not really too worried that Gordon will push for a move, we genuinely feel that he's happy here, but were he to go, Newcastle would make a huge profit on the deal and that money would be used to bring in more signings. If Paul Mitchell ever gets his finger out that is.

We'd very much prefer that not to happen, though, after last season Gordon is up there with Bruno and Isak in terms of quality and importance to the squad.
