Newcastle United are still trying to add new faces to their squad ahead of the new Premier League season which gets underway in just over a week's time.
The Magpies are currently working to bring in Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in what could end up being a record-breaking deal, meanwhile, Sky Sports have reported that Will Osula's £10 million move from Sheffield United is complete so we can expect an announcement today.
Most Newcastle fans will remember the days of Alan Pardew and one of his favourite ways of deflecting from poor transfer business was to say that a player coming back from injury was like a new signing.
If that's the case then Newcastle can expect three 'new signings' in the early part of next season with Joe Willock back to fitness and Sandro Tonali's 10-month ban coming to an end.
The third is none other than Matthew Robert Targett. The £15 million left-back has been missing for nine months, although it feels like much longer in reality due to the stop-start nature of his injuries.
The Shields Gazette has reported this morning that the 28-year-old is ready to return to training next week in time for the new season.
It'll obviously take Targett a couple of weeks to get back up to speed so he's unlikely to feature against Southampton.
We, like many Newcastle fans, are hoping that Lewis Hall has done enough to earn his place in the starting XI at left-back and that he'll make that position his own, keeping Targett out of the side.
We also have Lloyd Kelly and Dan Burn who can fill the left-back void and Kieran Trippier who's not averse to making the switch to the left if needs be.
However, Eddie Howe did fork out good money for Targett after his impressive loan spell, and he's never really been fit enough to have a good run in the first team, so we may see some sympathy minutes for Targett which he will have to grasp with both hands to win back the Geordie Faithful.
