Newcastle United will be shopping for goalkeepers this summer with Loris Karius already set to leave and the future of Martin Dubravka currently uncertain.

Martin Dubravka has spent the majority of this season as Eddie Howe's number one after Nick Pope picked up a shoulder injury.

The Slovakian had his moments but overall we sorely missed Pope, the gulf in quality between the two became clear pretty quickly as Newcastle's defence struggled with a seeming lack of confidence in their 'keeper.

The Magpies have been linked with Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer which would solve the Dubravka issue, but there's still the Loris Karius spot to fill.

James Trafford is now on Newcastle's radar

Trafford started the season as Burnley's first-choice keeper

Journalist Alan Nixon has posted on his Patreon Blog that Eddie Howe is now keen on England U21 goalkeeper James Trafford who is currently at Burnley.

The 21-year-old has a lot of potential to be an outstanding 'keeper and Eddie Howe is ready to make sure that potential is realised at Newcastle.

Trafford was Burnley's first-choice goalkeeper for the start of the Premier League campaign after a £19million move from Manchester City before losing his place to Arijanet Muric. Now it's expected that one of those two will leave this summer before Burnley return to the Championship.

James Trafford likely won't come cheap

With Burnley paying around £19million for Trafford just last year, they will likely want a decent fee in return which could cause a problem for Newcastle.

Although, at just 21, he could be seen as a long-term investment for the Magpies and a risk worth taking.

Personally, I say go for it. Having Pope, Ramsdale and Trafford on the books? That's our GK position covered for a long time with top talent.
