Newcastle United could be given the green light to sign Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic, dubbed 'the next Luka Modric' who is set to leave RB Salzburg this summer.
Several clubs are interested, the Magpies are thought to be one of them.
It has already been reported that Newcastle have had interest in the 21-year-old, in August 2022, football journalism powerhouse Fabrizio Romano told Que Golazo that Sucic was part of Eddie Howe's transfer plans.
Sucic was also linked to a move to Tyneside in March 2023. YardBarker posted that Liverpool and Newcastle were watching the Croatian.
Sucic has gone on record as being aware of a potential move to the Premier League.
In 2023, he told Sportske Novosti: "I've read some stories and that's all I can tell you about the subject.
"When the time comes for that, we'll see what happens, weigh what's best to continue my career.
"It's mine to play the best I can at the club and the national team and then the transfer will come on its own."
It's all rather cryptic, but Romano has tweeted that Sucic is likely to leave Salzburg at the end of the season.
Romano stated that "his current deal expires in June 2025 and it's the last opportunity for Salzburg to get a transfer fee."
This is great news for Newcastle, who will surely be dipping into the market for cheap young talents.
Sucic played all six of Salzburg's Champions League games this season, playing the full 90 in four of them and scoring in their final game against Benfica.
In the league, he has made 14 appearances but has missed out on a small chunk of the season due to a knee injury.
