The search for a new winger for Newcastle United continues with new names appearing all the time, however, one name has stood the test of time.

Newcastle have needed a new right-winger since the 2021 PIF-backed takeover and for whatever reason, the club has sailed through transfer window after transfer window without properly addressing the situation.

We know that Miguel Almiron had that purple patch in October 2022 when everything he touched turned to gold, and Eddie Howe adores Jacob Murphy, but everyone knows that neither are really up to the task of getting Newcastle to the Champions League and keeping them there.

While the Magpies are constantly linked with wingers from all over the world, there is one that keeps appearing and it doesn't seem to matter which sporting director is at the helm, this one name keeps popping up - Kevin Zenon.

Benfica have entered the race for Newcastle target Kevin Zenon

A fresh report from O Jogo in Portugal has once again linked Zenon to Newcastle United as part of a story claiming Benfica have now joined the Magpies and Real Madrid in their interest of the 23-year-old.

In the 2023/24 season for Boca Juniors, Zenon made 37 appearances scoring four goals and providing seven assists playing mostly on the left wing.

And therein lies our issue. Newcastle don't need another left winger. If there's any position we don't need more players for, it's left wing. Harvey Barnes can't get a game because of Anthony Gordon, and if both of those are injured Alexander Isak and Joelinton are able to fill in.

Kevin Zenon could be a quality player but he's not what Newcastle needs right now

We're sure there must be something about Kevin Zenon. Real Madrid don't just take a shine to any old player, but a left winger, even if he can play on the right, isn't a priority.

Newcastle need a player whose primary position is right wing, not someone who can play there but prefers somewhere else.

It's probably just a case of Newcastle's name being brought up due to a historical interest and there's no desire to chase after him right now, but who knows with this club?
