Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Southampton for the permanent transfer of Ryan Fraser, according to reports.
The 30-year-old Scottish international spent last season on loan at the Saints, helping them achieve promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Fraser, who hasn't featured for Newcastle since October 2022 looked set to leave the club this summer after falling out with Toon boss Eddie Howe during their 4th placed finish campaign.
The move will unlock more funding for the Magpies as they tackle Financial Fair Play complications.
According to Chris Waugh of The Athletic, a deal has been agreed but a few small details need to be ironed out before confirmation.
In March 2023, Fraser was sent to train with the Under-21s due to a fallout with Howe.
The Newcastle head coach told the press that he made the decision to concentrate on players who were "committed" to the club.
He also admitted that he felt that Fraser had no future at the club.
Fraser is on a reported £70,000-a-week. The sale of Fraser means the club has more leeway in the transfer market.
With the move to Southampton imminent, chances are that Fraser could feature against the Magpies in the Premier League next season.
There is every opportunity that he could return to haunt Eddie Howe and Newcastle.
The Scotsman had a decent season in the Championship, scoring six goals in 39 appearances but to make a deal worth it he will need to post similar numbers in the Premier League.
