While Newcastle United know that centre-back and right-wing are their priority positions in this summer's transfer market, it seems that they are still shopping for other positions too.

A claim was made yesterday by Argentinian journalist Gaston Edul that Newcastle had their eyes on defensive midfielder Santiago Hezze who recently represented Argentina at the Olymipcs.

The 22-year-old is on the verge of breaking into the Argentina national side after impressing at club level for Olympiakos.

Now it looks as though Newcastle could be first to strike to try and bring him to the Premier League.

Many fans have said Newcastle need a CDM

A report from Sportime in Greece has echoed Edul's claims and have gone one further suggesting that the Magpies could soon bid €20 million (£17 million) for the midfielder.

It is believed that would be enough to get Olympiakos to the negotiating table which could see a rather speedy resolution.

Hezze would come in as back up to the first team with Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes ahead of him, not to mention Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff, but will also provide Eddie Howe with the defensive midfielder many believe the side has been missing.

The links to Hezze have picked up a lot of traction since yesterday

Hezze made 50 appearances for Olympiakos last season registering one goal and three assists.

We're not sure that Hezze is someone we need right now, especially as we still haven't secured our priority targets and given how stacked our midfield already is.

It's a bit of a strange one which is why we didn't cover it yesterday, but it has picked up a fair bit of traction over the last 24 hours so it could be worth keeping an eye on.
