Newcastle revive interest in £21m AC Milan star who broke Geordie hearts last season

Newcastle United are set to compete with Aston Villa and West Ham for 25-year-old AC Milan winger next year.

The Magpies still need to find the right player to come in and takeover the right-wing mantle from Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron and while several names have surfaced and disappeared in the past, Newcastle have never really looked close to actually making the signing they so desperately need.

This summer Newcastle focused their efforts on strengthening their defence but ultimately came up short in that department to meaning Paul Mitchell is likely going to be a very busy man over the next couple of transfer windows to make up for the past two disappointing windows.

It's believed that Miguel Almiron is edging ever closer to a St James' Park exit and if that is the case then there's no excuse to not bring in a new winger.

Newcastle wanted Samuel Chuzwueze before he signed for AC Milan

One name that Newcastle were linked with in the past but disappeared as quickly as it came is AC Milan's Samuel Chukwueze who was linked with the Toon a couple of years ago.

Now, Milan Live have claimed that the Magpies have revived their interest in Chukwueze but face a fight with Aston Villa and West Ham for the Nigeria international.

Newcastle were keen on Chukwueze when he was at Villarreal but he ultimately signed for AC Milan and then broke Geordie hearts as he scored the goal that sent Newcastle crashing out of the Champions League last season.

Chukwueze is fallen behind Christian Pulisic in the pecking order at Milan

Since then, though, Chukwueze hasn't really managed to nail down a starting spot for Milan and as a result could be open to a move from the Italian club.

Another former alleged Newcastle target, Christian Pulisic has made the right-wing spot his own at Milan opening the door for the Magpies to try their luck to lure away Chukwueze.

AC Milan are likely to want around €25 million (£21 million) for Chukwueze which seats him in the affordable section, however it's likely to be a move that gets the Toon Army dancing in the streets.
