Newcastle United's quest for goalkeepers continues as talks between Newcastle and Burnley over James Trafford slow to a crawl.

If you were watching the Euros yesterday, you'd have seen the most entertaining game of the tournament so far as Turkey beat Georgia 3-1 with Newcastle target Giorgi Mamardashvili cruelly embarrassed in the final moments of the game.

Trailing 2-1 but in the ascendency, Georgia gave Mamardashvili the green-light to join the attack as they won a dangerous free-kick followed by a corner. Unfortunately, their corner was dealt with by the Turkish 'keeper who set Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu away running towards an open goal before slotting home to seal the win for Turkey who had scored two goal of the tournament contenders before that, one of which was by former Toon target Arda Guler.

Other than that mishap though, Mamardashvili had a good game and there was nothing he could have done about the other goals. It was maybe a sign that Newcastle should revisit their desire to sign him after walking away from the £35million deal.

Newcastle are keen on Atalanta 'keeper Juan Musso

Newcastle look to have moved on from Mamardashvili completely

However, if Tutto Atalanta are to be believed, the Magpies now have another target in mind in the form of 30-year-old Argentine goalkeeper Juan Musso.

The Atalanta stopper is attracting interest from several clubs one of which is believed to be Newcastle.

The Magpies' scouts will have seen Musso in action while keeping tabs on Atalanta midfielder Ederson, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that there's some truth to the rumour.

It's probably a case of either/or for Musso and Trafford but we can dream

It may be a case of going for Musso over Trafford as the talks with Burnley seem to have stalled, but given the age difference, it looks more like a case of going for both with Musso to push for number 1 spot with Nick Pope while James Trafford develops into the future first-choice.

Juan Musso was second-choice at Atalanta last season for the most part, although he was deployed during the UEFA Europa League where he played 12 of Atalanta's 13 games en route to lifting the trophy keeping eight clean sheets in the process.

Therefore it seems the Argentina international is not averse to playing second-fiddle, and with Pope, Musso and Trafford, Newcastle would be fairly well set in the goalkeeping department, if indeed the plan is to bring both 'keepers to the club, though it's more likely to be one or the other.
