Newcastle United are extremely interested in signing Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, according to reports.

A positive relationship between the Magpies and Forest may be blossoming thanks to both clubs helping each other out with player signings to ensure they were compliant with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

21-year-old Scottish midfielder Elliot Anderson signed for Forest for £35million on Sunday night with Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos going the other way for a significantly smaller fee.

Now, Newcastle want Forest to throw them another bone by agreeing a fee for Gibbs-White who has been linked with a move to Tyneside for a long time.

Newcastle "really want" Morgan Gibbs-White

INews have reported that The Magpies are really keen on signing Gibbs-White this summer but it won't be cheap.

It is thought that the Englishman could cost Newcastle as much as £60m, a fee which may send alarm bells ringing on a PSR standpoint.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful season bagging five goals and providing 10 assists to help guide Forest to a third successive Premier League season.

Gibbs-White's quality means that he has drawn interest from clubs higher up the league table with Tottenham Hotspur also thought to be interested.

Does Newcastle need another midfielder?

The midfield position isn't a priority for Newcastle, instead, they are eyeing moves for a centre-back and right-winger.

With the departure of Elliot Anderson, it will be a position that is in the back of Eddie Howe's mind but the Magpies have a strong starting midfield so their money will most likely be spent elsewhere.

Gibbs-White may also look for a move to a club with European football next season, taking Newcastle out of the driving seat.
