Newcastle United have hit another potential roadblock in their pursuit of adding a quality winger to the ranks this summer.

The Magpies, along with Aston Villa and Bayern Munich reportedly hold an interest in FSV Mainz' 19-year-old winger Brajan Gruda.

Newcastle look likely to sell Miguel Almiron in the upcoming transfer window, but regardless of whether he leaves or not, Eddie Howe could do with adding quality down the right flank.

While still young, Gruda is obviously seen as someone with potential to fill that gap.

Newcastle have been told to pay up £42m for Brajan Gruda

However, TeamTalk claims that in a bid to fend off any potential buyers, Mainz have slapped a €50million (£42million) price tag on the youngster.

Gruda made 29 appearances for Mainz last season scoring four goals and providing three assists, and despite being a winger by trade, he played most of those games as a central attacking midfielder.

Despite not racking up mind-blowing numbers, he has the potential to be a top player.

Gruda doesn't want to move and end up on the bench

At £42million it's very doubtful that anyone would be willing to take on a player with potential at that price until it is proven potential.

Bayern Munich are considered as frontrunners should Mainz lower their asking price, but Gruda recently told the media he's more concerned about developing as a player first, before making a move to a big club and potentially not playing.

“If I don’t play for a new club, it would destroy me. Eventually, there will be enough money, so right now it’s just important that I get a lot of playing time and continue to develop.”

There's obviously a long way to go in the summer yet and things could change, but Brajan Gruda doesn't look like he'll be a Newcastle player come August.
