As far as positions that need addressing at Newcastle United in this transfer window go a right-back perhaps isn't high on the list of priorities.

Even with the rumour mill going into overdrive over the future of Kieran Trippier, not helped by his posting an image of himself with a scout from Al-Ettifaq over the weekend, we're still not sure how desperate Newcastle's need for a right-back is.

Tino Livramento will likely take over from Trippier should he leave, with Emil Krafth and potentially Harrison Ashby backing him up. Although, should Newcastle look to send Ashby out on loan again, that could open the door for a new arrival.

Newcastle were linked last week to Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode and that link has surfaced once again today.

Newcastle have been credited with an interest in Michael Kayode

The 20-year-old has been generating interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa with Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claiming that Aston Villa had a €15 million (£12.6 million) bid for Kayode rejected in June.

It's believed Fiorentina value Michael Kayode at €30 million (£25 million) but Corriere dello Sport is claiming that Tottenham have been told to improve on Aston Villa's bid by €5 million (£4.2 million) and that could be enough to get the ball rolling.

Newcastle were also mentioned as potential suitors and if a bid of €20 million (£16.8 million) for a highly-rated youngster is all it would take, then they may well get involved.

We aren't convinced there'll be a bid from Newcastle

Again, it's not a position that needs attention this summer, particularly not another promising youngster given Harrison Ashby and Tino Livramento's age, but there does seem to be a bizarre lack of confidence in Ashby.

We thought he looked good in pre-season last year and were surprised to see him shipped off to Swansea, and it has been suggested that another loan move could be on the cards for the 22-year-old this season.

Whatever the deal is with Ashby, we're still not convinced there'll be any movement on Kayode, but just for the sake of beating Tottenham and Villa to his signing, we want it to happen.
