Crystal Palace suffered their second defeat in as many games on Saturday with Newcastle United target Marc Guehi the captain for both matches.

After losing two games on the trot and also selling Joachim Andersen to Fulham during the week, Palace may well be ready to do all they can to keep England defender Marc Guehi at the club now to help them turn this around.

Similarly, Guehi might be thinking that he's best off jumping off the sinking ship while there's still time left in the window.

Whatever the current state of play is with the negotiations between Newcastle, Palace and Guehi, the Magpies need to be open to other options just in case.

Mohamed Simakan is back on Newcastle's radar

Other names have appeared throughout the summer, some have remained on the list, others we've forgotten about.

A player who was linked before the summer window opened was Mohamed Simakan from RB Leipzig, but it went completely silent when the window opened.

However, his name has appeared again via The Daily Mail as a potential target for the Magpies should things not work out with Guehi.

If only Marc Guehi had a release clause

Simakan is believed to have a £65 million release clause according to Newcastle World, and they believe it's likely Leipzig will negotiate until that clause is met.

It would still mean Newcastle would end up with their record signing being a defender, but at least once that £65 million mark has been met with Leipzig there's pretty much nothing they can do about it. If only Guehi had a release clause, this would all be over with now.

Simakan looks like a decent player, tall, rapid, decent with the ball at his feet, but he's also not worth £65 million.
