A report from German journalist Christian Falk has linked Newcastle with an interest in Werder Bremen striker Marvin Ducksch.

Newcastle will be on the lookout for a new striker in January after losing both first-team options to injury recently. Although

Alexander Isak is said to be fit enough to play at least some part in the game against Chelsea on Saturday, it would be prudent of Eddie Howe to bring in another striker in case this injury curse continues.

Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are eyeing Ducksch

It seems like the Magpies are casting their eyes over the Bundesliga having already been linked to Stuttgart's prolific Serhou Guirassy and now Werder Bremen's Marvin Ducksch.

German international Ducksch has nine goal contributions in 11 Bundesliga games this season putting him some way behind Guirassy's 16 in nine, but it's still not a bad return.

Nottingham Forest are also keen on the 29-year-old and believe they could snap him up for just £13million which must be an attractive prospect for Newcastle who are operating on a tight budget this winter.

Guirassy seems like a better option than Ducksch

For us, the Guirassy deal makes more sense. He has a release clause of just £15million, he's scoring for fun and he is two years younger than Ducksch.

However, one thing we've learned is that if Newcastle are linked with a player in the media, then chances are they're not interested.

Newcastle like to get their transfer business done away from prying eyes and the media don't usually find out about a deal until it's almost wrapped up. It's still fun to speculate though, and imagine how these players would do should they come to the Toon.

Also, do I get bonus points for not making any duck puns here?
