Reports out of Italy are saying that Newcastle United are 'at the window' when it comes to taking Spain U21 international Dean Huijsen off Juventus' hands this summer.

The Magpies have been keeping an eye on developments with Huijsen after the 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at AS Roma after making just one brief Serie A outing for Juventus in the first half of the campaign.

At Roma, Huijsen saw a lot more game time making 14 appearances and even popping up with two goals from centre-back. He was even deployed as a central midfielder for two games and right wing for one, so he's got plenty of versatility.

Juventus have earmarked Huijsen as a sellable asset this summer as they look to get their books back in order and would be willing to accept offers of around €30million (£25million).

Dean Huijsen is a man in demand

Newcastle face competition from Girona and Borussia Dortmund

Tuttosport have claimed that Newcastle have been making moves in recent days to gather more information on the youngster ahead of making an offer.

However, they won't be alone with Borussia Dortmund and Girona also 'at the window' for his signature.

Both Girona and Dortmund can offer Champions League football next season which could swing things in their favour after Newcastle failed to secure European football after a tough season.

There is hope for Newcastle in the pursuit of Dean Huijsen

It is believed, however, that Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli is ‘maintaining close relationships’ with Newcastle and Dortmund which could give us the edge over Girona at least.

This looks like another case of Newcastle's recruitment team needing to have a flawless sales pitch to convince someone to forego Champions League football for a season in favour of joining one of the most exciting projects in the game.

It should be easier to do for a younger player like Huijsen as they have plenty of time to play Champions League football, so we might stand a good chance with this one, fingers crossed.
