Newcastle United look to have a really promising young talent on their hands in the form of Trevan Sanusi.

The 17-year-old was sought after by a host of Premier League sides before Newcastle swooped in and picked up the former Birmingham City winger ahead of the likes of Liverpool.

The young winger has played a big part in Newcastle's pre-season preparations picking up a lot of praise along the way.

After replacing Anthony Gordon at half time at St James' Park in the 4-0 win over Girona on Friday night, fans were comparing Sanusi with former fan-favourite Allan Saint-Maximin owing to his fancy footwork.

Trevan Sanusi looks destined for big things

Newcastle will not loan Trevan Sanusi out next season

It's a fairly strong comparison for Sanusi who has shown no fear with the ball at his feet. He is still a bit raw, obviously, but the potential is there for all to see, and it's with that in mind that Eddie Howe has decided no to loan out Sanusi this season as he told reporters (via The Chronicle).

"Personally I think it's too early to loan him. The biggest thing we have to do is to develop his talent and to keep improving his game - but also develop him psychically.

"I thought he did well tonight. I think he's got bits to learn, of course, for someone his age. Tactically he's got things to improve. We've got to build him up physically to protect him and to make sure he's robust enough to deal with the rigours of the Premier League. But he's left a positive impression on us and I'm really pleased with him."

Let's hope we can keep hold of him beyond this season

It does sound as though Sanusi could be given a couple of opportunities in the coming season, but we shouldn't expect to see his name in the squad each week like we did with Lewis Miley - especially as Miley's rise to first-team status was accelerated by circumstances out of Eddie Howe's control.

Hopefully, we do see Sanusi throughout the season and we can keep track of his development as he's got a lot of fans excited already.

Let's just hope we can keep hold of him beyond next season and don't have to sell him for PSR like we did with Yankuba Minteh!
