Hold on to your salt as you may need a few pinches to get through this Newcastle United transfer rumour.
After spending nothing on first-team players in January, Newcastle fans will be hoping that Eddie Howe will be given the keys to the transfer coffers this summer as there's a lot of work to be done on the squad if we want to be challenging for Champions League spots again next season.
We are expecting Newcastle to spend big this summer, probably not Chelsea big, but a couple of hundred million seems about right, a big portion of which will be generated by players leaving the club.
Right now Premier League bosses are meeting to discuss changes to the Profit and Sustainability rules which saw a ten-fold decrease in transfer spend this January compared to last year. The outcome of these discussions could drastically affect how much Newcastle are allowed to spend on new faces.
With Newcastle needing additions in several key areas, the idea that we'll be out spending insane amounts on one player doesn't feel likely, but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill linking Newcastle with a move for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao this summer.
Telefoot have linked Newcastle with a move for the 24-year-old while Foot Mercato have gone into detail about how the move could happen given Leao's interesting release clause.
A £150million release clause exists, which can be paid in instalments by the buyer, but it is only active from 5th to 15th July so if any club is seriously looking to splash the cash on Portuguese they'll have to be pretty quick.
Leao has six goals and eight assists in 27 appearances for Milan this season, after finishing with 16 goals and 15 assists in 48 outings the season before.
Newcastle came up against Leao twice this season in the Premier League but managed to keep him quiet for the most part.
At £150million, this one just doesn't seem on the cards for Newcastle this summer. There are other positions that Howe will be looking to fill before splashing out on a new first-choice forward. This summer will be more about adding depth than adding superstars. Unless something hugely drastic changes with PSR after this week's meetings.
