Newcastle United are desperate to tie down Alexander Isak to a new deal and could use the same trick they did with Bruno Guimaraes to get the deal signed.

While the Swedish sensation still has four years remaining on his current contract, the Magpies want to reward the 24-year-old with improved terms after seeing how well he's performed since his £63 million move from Real Sociedad.

The club have a history of bringing players in and then improving their terms based on performances and you can't deny that Isak's performances haven't earned him something.

It's hard to say he's earned a pay rise when he's on £120,000-a-week already, but if we weren't talking football money, then yes, he's earned a pay rise.

Newcastle must keep hold of Alexander Isak

Newcastle will put a release clause in Alexander Isak's new deal

GiveMeSport have claimed that Isak is not close to agreeing terms with the club and there's still a long way to go but Newcastle will try and repeat the same genius move they did with Bruno Guimaraes last year.

Bruno's people pushed for a minimum fee release clause in his new contract and Newcastle duly obliged inserting a £100 million buy-out clause into his deal.

However, the clause was only active for one month and at a time where it would have been very difficult, if not impossible for clubs to activate it, and as a result Newcastle kept hold of Guimaraes for at least another season.

Arsenal are still sniffing around Alexander Isak

Given that Arsenal are very keen to sign Isak, Newcastle have their guard up, but it is believed that Isak is happy on Tyneside and of course with four years left on his current contract, the club aren't exactly vulnerable to losing him.

GiveMeSport also says that despite the agreement being a long way off from being completed, there's a calmness at the club about it, again, based on Isak's happiness at the club.

If Newcastle really want to start challenging for Champions League places every season then keeping hold of players like Bruno and Isak is absolutely essential. There will come a time when we can trade big-name players, but if we lose just one right now it would set us back a long way.
