Newcastle United remain in the market for a centre-forward this summer although it's believed a move would hinge on whether or not Callum Wilson leaves the club.

It's been reported that Newcastle are open to selling Callum Wilson this summer with the former England striker in the last year of his contract. Add to that his age and injury record and moving him on while clubs are still willing to pay for him makes perfect sense.

However, Eddie Howe would prefer to keep the 32-year-old saying that it would be too costly to replace him.

It will likely cost at least twice as much as what we receive for Wilson to replace him with the striker valued at around £18million-£20million.

Never mind DCL, go and get JD!

Newcastle could return with another bid for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

GiveMeSport believes that the Magpies could return to the table for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they were to replace Wilson.

Newcastle tried to land DCL as part of a quasi-swap deal involving Yankuba Minteh as part of the PSR frenzy at the end of June, but Everton stood firm on their £40million valuation and the deal collapsed.

West Ham have since entered the race but are also said to be put off by Everton's valuation which GiveMeSport claims has left the door open for Newcastle to return with another bid.

West Ham's interest in Jonathan David has cooled

That report also mentions another Newcastle target in the form of Jonathan David. The Lille striker has been linked with Newcastle and West Ham in recent weeks, but this report claims West Ham's interest has cooled.

Should that be the case, then why are we messing about even contemplating Dominic Calvert-Lewin when Jonathan David is available for the same price?

David is three years Calvert-Lewin's junior and way less injury-prone. Granted he's untested in the Premier League, but he does have Champions League experience. We know which one we'd rather have.
