Newcastle United's hunt for another defender continues and now that the new PSR reporting year is here we expect things will start to ramp up.
The Magpies believe they narrowly avoided being slapped with any points deductions for breaching PSR, although they won't know for sure for a few months yet, maybe the turn of the year.
Regardless, clubs can now start spending the current year's budget which means Newcastle will step up their hunt for reinforcements, and according to reports from Italy, they have done just that.
Il Bianconero are reporting that Newcastle have wasted no time in contacting Juventus over 26-year-old Italy defender Federico Gatti.
Gatti was part of the Italy squad that underperformed at Euro 2024 and were shockingly dumped out after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland who now await England in the quarter-finals.
However, Federico Gatti has avoided criticism purely because he got even less game time than Anthony Gordon, registering zero minutes of football at the tournament.
Now that he and his fellow countrymen have returned home, Newcastle 'have not hesitated' to make contact over a potential move.
The report hints that Juventus could be open to selling with a fee of £25million mooted last week.
It's a shame we didn't get to have a look at him in action during the Euros but given how poor Italy were, that could be for the best as we'd be having second thoughts about him already.
This one has been bubbling for a couple of weeks now and it has the feeling of a deal that oculd actually happen, it just remains to be seen if Gatti himself is open to a move to the Premier League.
