It's beginning to look like absolutely nobody knows what is going on with Newcastle United's attempts to sign AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.

Monday morning started off with positive news, one source saying that everything was verbally agreed and progressing nicely.

The move of Strahinja Pavlovic to AC Milan looked close to completion and that was believed to be their replacement for Thiaw, so once that was signed, sealed and delivered, Thiaw would get the green light to move to Newcastle.

Then, out of nowhere, quotes appeared from Thiaw's agent dismissing the reports that anything was even remotely close with his client and Newcastle.

Nobody has a clue what's going on

But if your neck wasn't sore enough watching the rumour bouncing back and forth like a rally at Wimbledon, Newcastle-hating journalist Alessandro Schiavone who seems to be calming down after Newcastle bought his beloved Sandro Tonali last year, has since come out with the Pavlovic signing giving the green light story again.

We're naturally more inclined to believe the words from Thiaw's agent, but agents are no more beacons of truth than journalists, so we really have no idea where this potential deal is at all.

Thiaw's agent could simply be trying to drum up interest from elsewhere to get Newcastle to increase their price.

We are still confident Thiaw will head to Newcastle at some point this summer

it does feel like this one has gone on for so long now that it is likely to happen unless something goes drastically wrong.

However, as for how long it's going to take to get over the line is anyone's guess.

It looks like that flight from New York to Japan was nothing ... shocker.
