There were four international fixtures last night that involved representatives of Newcastle United making it a tense time for fans.

Given Newcastle's ridiculous injury list, the fact that there were four players potentially in action last night was a cause for mass anxiety amongst the Toon Army.

Emil Krafth, who's just returned from a 14-month layoff through injury was called up for Sweden who needed to face Azerbaijan in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Krafth was brought onto the pitch around the hour mark but was unable to prevent Sweden from losing 3-0 to the ten men of Azerbaijan. Sweden sit third in Group F, a staggering 10 points behind Belgium in second spot.

Please, Southgate, do us a favour and give this lad a rest

In action for Brazil last night was Bruno Guimaraes who played the full 90 minutes as Brazil lost 2-1 to Colombia. Bruno left the field in full working order while his clubmate Joelinton watched on from the bench as an unused substitute.

Fabian Schar was left out of the squad as Switzerland needed to beat Isreal to qualify for Euro 2024. Schar was being rested by Murat Yakin after the defender was complaining of muscle fatigue, but it's thought that it's nothing serious, just a precaution. Perhaps Switzerland could have done with the Newcastle centre-back as they drew 1-1 meaning their qualification party will have to wait.

Fingers crossed Gareth Southgate doesn't use Trippier tonight

Meanwhile. Martin Dubravka was in goal for Slovakia as they beat Iceland 4-2 booking their place in next year's European Championships.

Kieran Trippier is the next player Newcastle fans will be hoping to come through international duty unharmed as England take on Malta tonight.

We are hoping Trippier isn't used as he looks way off his usual game lately, likely due to fatigue, so him missing out on international action can only be a good thing for Newcastle.

If we can get through this break without picking up more unnecessary injuries, that would be great.
