Newcastle United continue to be linked with a move for club-less France star after holding an interest in the 29-year-old for over a year.

Adrien Rabiot is still without a club after leaving Juventus earlier in the summer after his contract expired.

The World Cup finalist with France has been on Newcastle's radar for a long time and they, along with Manchester United, were apparently both keen to sign the midfielder recently.

However, both clubs have taken a step back due to Rabiot's mammoth wage demands.

Adrien Rabiot wants European football

Adrien Rabiot is not keen on a move to Newcastle

Football Insider are now claiming that Rabiot is 'not overly keen' on a move to St James' Park anyway due to their lack of involvement in European competition.

It seems beggars can be choosers.

In all honesty though, now that it has been ever so politely brought to my attention that Rabiot is indeed not a winger, the fact that we were trying to sign him at all makes even less sense.

The idea that Newcastle want Rabiot now makes no sense

If Eddie Howe believed he could convince Rabiot to play out wide then I could see a place for him in the squad, but given that he's very rarely played anything other than central midfield, that seems very unlikely.

Therefore, why would we want him now? Howe is spoilt for choice in central midfield and bringing in an over-paid midfielder entering the declining years of his career who is famed for having a poor attitude, makes no sense whatsoever.

So while outlets are reporting it as Newcastle missing out, we're saying that it's Rabiot who's missing out, we're dodging a bullet.
