If there's a hill we're willing to die on this summer it's that Newcastle United should not even be contemplating going into next season with just two strikers on the books.

Not having a fit striker for every game last season cost us points as Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both fought off injuries all through the campaign, often at the same time.

However, reports are suggesting that Newcastle will only sign a striker this summer if Callum Wilson is sold, meaning that Eddie Howe has learned nothing from last season.

Of course, our point is moot if Isak and Wilson, or whoever replaces him, manage to remain fit for an entire season, but if it's Wilson, who are we kidding?

What are we waiting for? Go get him!

Newcastle are eyeing Canada star Jonathan David

One forward that Newcastle reportedly have their eye on is Lille striker Jonathan David but they are joined in that interest along with Tottenham and Manchester United according to Ben Jacobs writing for Give Me Sport.

Jacobs claims that David, who was touted as 'one of the best strikers in the world' by Canadian broadcaster Tony Marinaro, could be available for as little as £25million.

The 24-year-old Canada international scored 26 goals in all competitions for Lille last season, also picking up nine assists in 47 games.

At £25million there's nothing to even think about

At £25million, Newcastle should be throwing their hat in the ring regardless of whether or not Callum Wilson is sold.

Get Jonathan David in and then worry about Wilson later, if the worst comes to the worst we get our wish and we head into next season with three strikers.

Although, in fairness, David can play on either flank if needed too, which does give him that versatility that Eddie Howe loves so much.

Tottenham will be a big problem should we make a bid, however, but Manchester United look less likely to make a move as they have Joshua Zirkzee incoming.
