Newcastle United's search for a new goalkeeper is one that seems to have Eddie Howe and his staff leaving no stone unturned.

The Magpies have been linked with no fewer than six goalkeepers in recent months leading up to the summer window with three names seemingly mentioned daily.

Burnley's James Trafford is the most cost-effective option but probably the least exciting, while Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal is an interesting one but there's a feeling that it will be a tricky one to complete with Arsenal unlikely to want to sell to a rival and Newcastle reluctant to strengthen Arsenal's financial position.

The one that seems most likely right now is Valencia's Georgian stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili with Newcastle reportedly having already submitted a £35million bid.

Newcastle were the only team mentioned by name in the report from Spain

There have already been claims that the Magpies haven't actually made their move as yet, but positive reports coming from Super Deporte in Spain today have claimed that Newcastle are 'best placed' to land the 23-year-old.

It has been claimed that Valencia are working on the sale of Mamardashvili to improve their finances to allow them to recruit more faces this summer.

The only club mentioned by Super Deporte is Newcastle but they do say that no agreement has been reached between the two clubs as yet.

The story is likely to change again tomorrow

Every day it's a different 'keeper who is most likely to be joining Newcastle, so we'll take every report with a pinch of salt until we see one holding a Newcastle shirt as part of an announcement by the club.

Tomorrow it's likely that we'll be in pole position for James Trafford, then on Saturday it'll be someone completely new and then back to Asmir Begovic by Monday.

It's all fun and games, but it's what makes the off-season so much fun.
