Newcastle attacking target set for medical today ahead of £32m move - Fabrizio Romano

Newcastle United appear to have made zero headway in the quest to bring in a replacement for Miguel Almiron this summer.

Indeed, the Paraguayan winger still remains at the club despite being one of those players that everyone thought would be on the move this summer.

Newcastle have dragged their feet through the entire transfer window. There was a period of unrest mid-summer with Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi leaving and Paul Mitchell arriving, which can be used as an excuse for a week or two of inactivity, but the rest of the window has just been a shambles.

The fans have watched target after target move to other clubs and we're now about to see another one go elsewhere.

Nico Gonzalez has got his move to Juventus

Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez, the two-time Copa America winner with Argentina is now undergoing a medical ahead of a move to Juventus in a deal worth around £32 million.

Newcastle were strongly linked to Gonzalez through much of the window but the minute Juventus made their interest known it looked to be over for Newcastle.

It has taken a while but that deal looks set to be complete today.

Five more months of Miggy?

The transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday 30th August and Newcastle look no closer now than they did at the start of the window to signing a right-sided forward.

It looks like we're stuck watching Miggy cut in from the right and spooning a shot with his left until at least January - that is when Jacob Murphy isn't playing at least.

Patience is wearing thin amongst the Toon Army this summer with the Marc Guehi saga dragging on for around a month now and no other movement in or out on the horizon, there's a storm brewing.
