Reports in Germany are now saying that Newcastle United have approached Bayern Munich about signing 28-year-old defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
Recognised as one of the best in the World, Joshua Kimmich has lost his way a bit at Bayern, but even so, how, if we can't afford to loan Kalvin Phillips, can we be looking at Kimmich?
Make it make sense, please.
The report comes from Bild via Get Football News Germany and claims that Newcastle have reached out with a view to taking him away from Bayern.
It doesn't sound like it's a likely one to happen though as the report goes on to state that Kimmich has no interest in joining Newcastle and would rather stay and fight for his place at Bayern where he's still under contract until next year.
Even with just 18 months left on his contract, Kimmich would likely cost Newcastle a pretty penny and as we've already said, the club is crying poverty so something isn't adding up.
At this point we'd just love to know the truth - are we secretly shopping and these links are coming from leaks, or are we actually terrified of FFP and making no moves in the transfer market because both can't be true at the same time.
One day we're shopping for world-class talent and the next we're walking away from a loan deal because it's too expensive.
Can we just have some clarity now please?
