Recently, reports had suggested that Liverpool would try and palm off their £85 million mistake, Darwin Nunez as part of a swap deal for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
If you want my honest opinion, giving us Darwin Nunez as part of that deal would only mean that they'd have to pay more than if it was a straight cash deal as Nunez adds negative value to the transaction.
Signed for £85 million from Benfica in 2022, Liverpool thought they were signing one of the world's brightest talents.
Newcastle had been keen on the Uruguayan, too but couldn't match what Liverpool were willing to pay to take him to Anfield.
However, TeamTalk are now reporting that Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are looking to rescue Darwin Nunez from his Liverpool nightmare with the Reds looking to offload the 25-year-old.
What's strange to me is that I am absolutely 100% certain that Nunez is garbage and only ever puts in a decent shift against Newcastle, but he actually has 40 goals and 24 assists in 136 appearances for Liverpool.
He's obviously not as poor as I've decided he is, he just has a propensity for missing absolute sitters and that's what sticks in my mind.
That being said, Nunez only has seven goals this season, so he's hardly been prolific under Arne Slot. Yet, despite the decent overall stats, I'm still hoping that this is just a story TeamTalk have created to get a few clicks.
Nottingham Forest and Atletico Madrid are keen on Nunez, let one of them have him and if we see a revival at Forest I'll happily eat my words.
I just can't do it. I can't get behind the idea of Darwin Nunez at Newcastle United.
Unless of course he does end up coming to the Toon at which point he'll be the best player since Alexander Isak. Obviously.
