Newcastle United will be shopping for a new striker either in the upcoming January transfer window or the summer window as Callum Wilson's contract is due to expire in the summer.

While we have seen stranger things than Eddie Howe handing a new deal to the perpetually injured striker, we expect that one way or another, Wilson will leave Newcastle by the summer.

One striker who is reportedly on Newcastle's radar for a summer switch is Canadian striker Jonathan David who is due to leave Lille when his contract expires in June.

Newcastle are expected to be among the clubs clamouring for his signature with contact having already been made over a pre-contract agreement in the new year.

Fulham have entered the race for Jonathan David

There are bound to be some big-name sides vying for David's signature as his form in Ligue 1 has been spectacular, to the point where he has been hailed as 'one of the best strikers in the world'.

One Premier League side that Give Me Sport now claims have their eye on JD is Marco Silva's Fulham.

In truth, we thought Newcastle would have a hard time convincing David to join them with the calibre of clubs we expect to be involved in talks, so it's reassuring to know that Fulham feel they have a shot. It means that maybe we're not being so cheeky after all.

We're still dreaming of having Jonathan David and Alexander Isak up front together

It's not always how football works out that the top players move to the top clubs, some would prefer to go somewhere where there's a guarantee of first-team football which is more important to them than trophies.

Newcastle can't promise trophies yet, but they are in a good position to promise they'll be there or thereabouts.

As for first-team football, Jonathan David would have to contend with Alexander Isak on that front, but that worked wonders for Callum Wilson when he was fit, so David may see that as a positive too.

We're just trying to convince ourselves that he'll come to Tyneside.
