Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier made the decision to retire from international football last year following Euro 2024.

England once again missed out on lifting the trophy as beaten finalists, and after the tournament, Gareth Southgate stepped down as manager, and Kieran Trippier stepped away from the international spotlight.

Trippier's retirement came at a very stressful time for the Toon defender as he was going through a very messy and public separation from his wife.

Heading into the summer, Trippier's form at Newcastle had dropped off a cliff, likely as a result of his off-field problems, and we can't help but feel that it all played a part in his decision.

Since then, however, Kieran Trippier's form for Newcastle has massively recovered, and the 35-year-old looks back to his best of late, and as such, he's now thinking about coming out of retirement for England if needed.

In quotes relayed by TalkSPORT, Trippier has said, 'never say never' when discussing a return to England.

“I made the decision to retire. I thought was the right time. But of course I miss it. I miss the banter, the staff. Never say never."

Trippier went on to admit that he's spoken to England boss Thomas Tuchel and says he feels he could be the one to take England that one step further.

"He is a top, top coach. I have spoken to him a few times and met him as well.

"He has got the boys playing. England have won eight out of eight and didn't concede a goal.

"Who knows? We have been so close over many years. Hopefully, he can be the right man to bring the trophy home."

Speaking as selfish Newcastle fans, we'd prefer it if Trippier left the England set up behind him so he can enjoy the rest when the international breaks come around. It has been working for him.
