Former Newcastle United star Andy Carroll scored a beautiful goal this weekend.

It was almost 13 years ago when Mike Ashley broke Geordie hearts by selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool for a then British transfer record fee of £35 million.

The lanky striker—a product of the Newcastle United academy—was coming off the back of an amazing season in the Championship and had continued his form into the Premier League when Liverpool swept him away on deadline day in the January transfer window, leaving Newcastle without their main goal scorer and no time to bring in a replacement.

Carroll's career declined after leaving Newcastle

Carroll's career steadily declined from there. He only managed 11 goals in his time at Liverpool (he had 11 for the season for Newcastle when they signed him). He then moved on to West Ham where he faired much better, but injuries were becoming an issue.

Following his release from West Ham, Steve Bruce brought Carroll back to Newcastle on a free transfer but, as with pretty much everything Bruce did, it wasn't worth it at all.

Carroll left Newcastle again, heading to West Bromwich Albion, thinking he'd escaped the pain of Bruceball, only to be followed shortly after by the former Manchester United defender.

He may be a shadow of his former self but this was a canny finish it has to be said

A spell at Reading followed that, and just when it looked like it was time for Carroll to hang up his boots he bagged himself a move to Ligue 2 side Amiens.

So far this season Carroll has bagged two goals in seven Ligue 2 games, scoring with a delicious lob from just inside the halfway line at the weekend.

Okay, so it's only the French second division, but still, that's a goal worthy of any league.
