It has been quite the week for Newcastle United and Sandro Tonali with the Italian at the centre of a huge transfer rumour mess.

It started on Monday when Sky Sports Germany reported that Arsenal were readying a deadline day swoop for the midfield maestro.

That was quickly shot down by the club, but then it later transpired that Tonali's agent had been in touch with Arsenal about a move, something he later denied.

However, in that denial, Giuseppe Riso spoke about revisiting Tonali's valuation in March, which suggests he could be working on an exit for the Toon star.

Real Madrid held an interest in Sandro Tonali previously

Then, last night after Newcastle's bruising defeat to Manchester City, Tonali was seen having a bit of a love-in with Pep Guardiola in the middle of the pitch.

And now, today, Spanish outlet Defensa Central have claimed that Tonali has 'offered himself' to Real Madrid ahead of the summer. Fortunately, they don't believe it will go anywhere.

"It’s true that Sandro Tonali was followed by Real Madrid a few seasons ago as a possible signing. However, at the moment, it doesn’t seem that he’s the type of player they’re looking for at the Bernabeu."

Newcastle may struggle to keep hold of Sandro Tonali this summer

Newcastle have the security of a contract with Tonali that runs to 2030, so if anyone does want to take him off our hands this summer, they're going to have to pay handsomely for the privilege.

Both Eddie Howe and CEO David Hopkinson have said this week that they believe Tonali is very happy at the club; however, and as much as Howe conceded things are out of his control, he didn't seem to be concerned over the rumours.

Still, there's a lot of time between now and the summer, and Newcastle's current trajectory may make it hard to convince the likes of Tonali that his future is best served on Tyneside.
