More nonsense from Crystal Palace as Marc Guehi saga drags into another week

As much as Newcastle United like to conduct their transfer business quietly, they're not being afforded that luxury in their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Eddie Howe has been quizzed on Marc Guehi several times and the Newcastle boss hasn't even mentioned his name yet, as is often the way transfer business is conducted.

Meanwhile, Palace co-owner Steve Parish has been part of at least three high-profile interviews where he's discussed the deal and the club even threw Marc Guehi to the wolves last week to face the media ahead of their season opener against Brentford.

Rather than shield him from the barrage of awkward questions while his future is up in the air, they sent their captain out to talk to Sky Sports where, of course, he was asked about his future.

Oliver Glasner has suggested that Marc Guehi would reject Newcastle

Before their game against Brentford, Palace boss Oliver Glasner has given the media his two pence worth (via The Chronicle).

“There will be an amount of money, like there is in sport, and then I have to agree and find the right replacement. That’s not the case at the moment, but do you know who is the most important one? Marc himself.

Let’s say that Crystal Palace and Newcastle find an agreement. Marc could say: 'I don’t care.' I don’t care as well. It’s not something I think about all day. I stopped reading all the rumours because, if I do, I would be speaking with my sporting director and my chairman every day, asking is it true? and on the other side, no comment."

Please, just put us out of our misery

While his quotes are not as egregious as those of Steve Parish, and resemble the remarks of many a manager resigned to losing a star player, it's the suggestion that Marc Guehi would snub Newcastle that's a bit odd.

Of course, there's a chance of that, but it has been widely reported for a while now that Guehi is keen on the move and personal terms will not be a problem. Literally, the only obstacle is agreeing the fee.

Can we just get it done now? This really is becoming tiresome.
