Odysseas Vlachodimos is currently on loan at Sevilla from Newcastle United, and the Greek international is enjoying life in Spain.

The 31-year-old arrived on Tyneside for £20 million even though nobody at the club actually wanted him. That was made abundantly clear by how little he was used by Eddie Howe in his first season at the club.

However, because of the large fee Newcastle paid for the stopper, they are now stuck with him or face taking a massive hit on their bottom line.

The decision was taken in the summer to allow Vlachodimos to move to Spain on loan for the season, where he's impressed his new club to the point where Sevilla are keen to keep him beyond the terms of their current deal.

Odysseas Vlachodimos' future is uncertain

Odysseas Vlachodimos is unsure what the future holds after succesful loan spell at Sevilla

We reported this week that Sevilla lacks the funds to make his move permanent and may request another loan, but people close to Vlachodimos don't seem too confident that a deal will be agreed as they told Estadio Deportivo.

“Ody is having a great season. He and his family are very happy in Sevilla and he’s considering staying longer, but the financial situation is really, really difficult.

“What happened this season has been exceptional. We are sure that Newcastle will not make exceptions and will not negotiate anything similar with him in the summer, so it will be very difficult due to the financial aspect.”

Imagine how Odysseas Vlachodimos must feel

If Newcastle aren't willing to take the financial hit to get him off the books, then surely another loan move is the only option. Sevilla are clearly willing to take him again; it seems like an open goal.

Unless Eddie Howe is having second thoughts about him after some of the performances from Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale this season. Which we highly doubt.

We do feel bad for Odysseas Vlachodimos. It has to be tough coming to a club where it's clear you weren't wanted and feeling like a financial burden more than anything positive for the team.
