More bad news for Newcastle United's loan department as two players set to leave suffer injuries

Newcastle United don't have a lot of luck when it comes to sending out their youngsters on loan with very few success stories springing to mind.

Yankuba Minteh's loan at Feyenoord stands head and shoulders above any loans that I can think of in the past few years as the shining example of what a loan move should look like.

Unfortunately, that was a very rare case and stories like the two poor moves made by Garang Kuol are closer to the norm.

Even domestically, we don't have much luck. When our players get sent out on loan they always seem to end up picking up injuries that rule them out for long periods, or in the case of Jamal Lewis, end up getting him sent back to us.

How many injuries is that, Diarmuid?

This month, the curse has struck for two players who hadn't even found their new temporary clubs yet.

Jay Turner-Cooke and Ben Parkinson were two players that Newcastle believed could benefit from a spell in the football league, but now both have picked up injuries that will prevent them moving out, according to The Northern Echo.

Parkinson has been on fire for the U21s this season and the club felt it was time he got to prove himself at a higher level after netting 11 goals in 15 games.

Unfortunately, Under 21s coach Diarmuid O'Carroll isn't expecting Parkinson or Turner-Cooke to be fit in time to go out on loan this month.

“I think Parky will probably be another four or five weeks, I would have thought. He's progressing well. He's working hard.

“Jay will be a little bit quicker - we're hoping for Jay maybe in the next ten days, two weeks, he’ll be available for us.

“But ultimately, it was a blow for both of them. They're both probably players that we looked at and thought it's time for them to go out, similar to Charlie (McArthur, who has joined Carlisle United on loan).

“Credit to both of them because it's been difficult mentally for them off the back of little innocuous injuries in training and training games. It was unfortunate, but they've shown maturity, they've attacked the gym and got around it and hopefully they can benefit from this period and come back in with us, probably from February onwards.

“Jay’s is just a twist but Parky's is more serious - it will put him out till probably until the start of March.”
