Eddie Howe has had his doubters at Newcastle United pretty much since he stepped into the role in 2021 following the PIF-backed takeover.
While having always been touted as a manager who has potential to become great, many felt that Newcastle handing the job to the former Bournemouth boss who had disappeared after being sacked from the Cherries showed a lack of ambition.
Simon Jordan, to this day, even after seeing Howe deliver silverware to Newcastle, insists that Howe will be cast aside as soon as a 'top manager' shows an interest in the job.
We've always said and will continue to do so, that at one point these 'top managers' were at Eddie Howe's level. You aren't just instantly great, and Eddie Howe is on the fast track to reaching greatness.
If you need proof then look no further than the stats unearthed by Newcastle World today which show that Howe is certainly heading in the right direction to be considered a great of the game.
It has taken Howe 1,194 days to deliver a trophy to Newcastle United. It took Sir Alex Ferguson, perhaps the greatest manager of all time, 1,288 to do the same for Manchester United before going on to win everything all the bloody time.
While not at the same level as Sir Alex is Jurgen Klopp, who brought success back to Liverpool in 1,331 days, and the German couldn't fart without Sky Sports giving him a round of applause. Liverpool was much better equipped for success when Klopp came in, too. Eddie Howe has really had to earn this trophy.
Howe lifted a trophy with Jacob Murphy, Joelinton and Fabian Schar on the pitch. Three players who were a gnat's beard hair away from being relegated with the club when he came in.
Joelinton was the biggest joke in football at the time, and now he's a medal-winning Brazil international and widely regarded as one of the most fearsome midfielders in the Premier League.
Let's have some respect shown for Eddie Howe's name, please. He's still got a way to go to be considered great, but imagine what he could deliver if Newcastle were able to spend money to bring in the players he wants rather than having to reconstruct the knackered players we have with spare parts.
