Last summer Newcastle United were never far away from a mention when it came to the future of OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.

The son of France legend Lilian Thuram and brother of another one-time Newcastle target Marcus Thuram, Khephren was linked with Newcastle on what felt like a daily basis last summer.

Then as Nice took part in the Sela Cup two-day pre-season friendly tournament at St James' Park, the hopes were that Thuram would take the time while he was at St James' Park to discuss a move.

However, it wasn't meant to be and the defensive midfielder remained at Nice for another season.

Khephren Thuram looks set to sign for Juventus

A year on and Khephren Thuram is finally on the move and will be wearing a black and white kit next season.

Unfortunately, it will be the black and white of Juventus who look set to tie up a £21million move imminently as reported by Fabrizio Romano

Newcastle could still be in the market for a defensive-minded midfielder but it's currently a position that will be quite far down the priority list as a winger and a striker and then another defender should be recruited first.

Thuram doesn't seem to be living up to last year's hype

Thuram made 29 appearances in all competitions for Nice last season scoring once and assisting once.

His performances weren't good enough to earn him a call-up to France's Euro 2024 squad as the 23-year-old remains stuck on one cap for his country.

It seems that while he's clearly not a terrible player, he probably wasn't worth all the hype that was surrounding him last summer when he was linked with a move to Newcastle.
