Before Manchester United swooped to nab Bryan Mbuemo ahead of Newcastle United, they snapped up Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha in whom Newcastle also had an interest.

We're not sure that Newcastle's interest in Matheus Cunha was as strong as that they had in Bryan Mbeumo, but it still stings seeing this Manchester United beat us to any signing.

Newcastle seem to be miles ahead of Manchester United on the pitch right now, and even in terms of being a nice club to be at.

However, as much as it pains us to admit, it's hard to compete with the pull that the Red Devils still have, even if it is mostly just a legacy thing now rather than anything they've done in recent memory.

Matheus Cunha explains why he wanted to join Manchester United

Now after confirming the move, Matheus Cunha has told the Man United website what made him choose Manchester United over all other suitors - money!

“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player.

“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.

“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

If Mbeumo says the same then we know they're given scripts

It is highly believable that Cunha did grow up watching Manchester United so we will give him the benefit of the doubt.

When Bryan Mbeumo comes out and says the same thing, though, we will be very suspicious.

If Man United keep up this level of recruitment, we might actually be a bit worried about them next season.
