Manchester United are looking to be a thorn in Newcastle United's side already, and the summer transfer window hasn't even opened yet.
The Red Devils already look like the favourites to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite Newcastle, and indeed several other clubs, chasing the Brazilian.
Although Newcastle have Bryan Mbeumo, who is likely to be higher on their wishlist, Matheus Cunha would have been another fantastic option for Eddie Howe.
But now it looks like Cunha won't be the only player to reject Newcastle in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey reporting to Geordie Boot Boys, Ruben Amorim looks set to beat Eddie Howe to the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who has a £30 million release clause following the Tractor Boys' relegation.
“We’re hearing that Liam Delap’s camp are leaning towards a move to Old Trafford.
“It is a two-horse race between Manchester United and Chelsea, but it is the former who are the favourites."
The fact that Delap came through the academy at Manchester City makes this one an even more baffling move, but as we've said before, we don't understand why any ambitious player would choose Man United over Newcastle right now.
Man United can still qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, but their Premier League finish, along with all the uncertainty at the club, should be a huge red flag to players.
It's amazing how far a legacy can carry you. Well, a legacy and money with it being suggested that Man United were prepared to offer Matheus Cunha up to £80,000-a-week more than other clubs.
