Newcastle United face their toughest test of the season this weekend as Manchester City visit St James' Park with a point to prove after a poor showing against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Magpies will also feel they have a point to prove after a series of rotten performances which culminated in their first defeat of the season against Fulham on Saturday.

Newcastle have been far from convincing all season but had managed to grind out results until their luck finally ran out on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Manchester City looked to extend their lead at the top on Sunday but were pegged to a 2-2 draw with Arsenal despite the Gunners playing the second half with 10 men.

Rodri is now a major doubt to face Newcastle

Man City star Rodri is likely to be out for the trip to St James' Park

During the match on Sunday, Man City lost Rodri to a bad-looking injury after just 21 minutes which knocked their rhythm.

Pep Guardiola said after the game that he did not know the extent of Rodri's injury but it must have been bad for him to come off the field.

It now looks highly unlikely that the Ballon d'Or nominee will be fit to make the trip to St James' Park on Saturday which could be of huge benefit to Newcastle.

Newcastle's nemesis Kevin De Bruyne could miss Saturday's game

Kevin De Bruyne is also a doubt for Saturday's game after picking up a knock in the Champions League clash last week.

The Belgian star missed the game against Arsenal and it's currently unknown as to whether he'll be fit enough to face Newcastle in the 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday.

I doubt we'll be lucky enough that both players will miss the game and I expect Kevin De Bruyne will be involved. He'll probably come off the bench again and completely turn the game in City's favour like he did last season. The man's just too good, it's unfair.
