Malick Thiaw insists Newcastle United team are 'together' and hints at backing for Eddie Howe
Newcastle United sent a strong message to the fans last night with their 2-1 win away at Tottenham Hotspur.
It was a very spirited performance by the under-pressure Mags, and the biggest message was sent after the full-time whistle when Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier pushed Eddie Howe in front of the fans to celebrate the win.
It was a fantastic moment that we've not seen for a long time, and it showed fans that the players are still behind Eddie, and it showed Eddie that the fans are still behind him.
Malick Thiaw, who became the top-scoring central defender in the Premier League this season, nabbing his fourth goal of the campaign, spoke to NUFC TV after the game, and he spoke of the togetherness in the squad.
Malick Thiaw sent a strong message of togetherness last night
When times are tough its easy for outsiders to think that the players have given up, but Malick Thiaw insists that isn't the case.
"The fans, they've been always on top (of their game). They were always singing, they always support us. We just can be grateful for this kind of fans.
“You could see even the gaffer, he went in front and was celebrating with them. It means so much for us. I think they've been with us the whole time. They show us what you can do better.
“We're just a unit, in total, even if sometimes people think it's not like that, because the results were not there. But we've always been together, and we'll stick together until the end of the season."
Eddie Howe clearly still has the backing of his players
There has been a worry that Eddie Howe has lost the dressing room, particularly looking at how drastically the form of the likes of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali has dropped.
Gordon put in a much better performance last night. He didn't see much of the ball, but his pace and his running worried the Spurs' defence enough that it left them wide open at the back.
Sandro Tonali came on late on and still looked miles off his best, but the players' reactions with Howe at full time showed that he's still got them all on his side.
