Major hint dropped over Eddie Howe's future this morning as news of new contract circulates
Eddie Howe managed to relieve a fair bit of pressure this week with a 2-1 win away to Tottenham Hotspur, although it would be naive to suggest that one win will completely change the mood of those calling for his head.
The fan pressure isn't matched by anyone connected with the club, however, and it has always felt like Eddie Howe's job is safe. At least until the end of the season, when the club may have a review of his position depending on how the campaign pans out.
One potential outcome that has been reported is that Eddie Howe would take up the role of England manager when Thomas Tuchel steps down when his contract is up after this summer's World Cup.
Eddie Howe has often been touted as a future England manager, and any time the job comes up for discussion, his name is usually one of the first to come up.
The England job is no longer a concern for Eddie Howe
News broke this morning, however, that Thomas Tuchel has opted to extend his time as England manager, signing a new contract taking him up to 2028.
This should quieten down the noise around Eddie Howe for a couple more years, unless of course something drastic happens at the World Cup and Tuchel gets the boot.
It obviously doesn't mean that Howe can coast at Newcastle now, not that he would, but it potentially removes one of the biggest worries for those who want Howe to stay in the job.
Could Thomas Tuchel lead England all the way?
As for England. We've been quite impressed with Tuchel so far. He's not afraid to do his own thing, even if that is digging up Jordan Henderson and throwing him onto the pitch.
We can't really argue with the results. England have won nine of Tuchel's 10 games in charge and kept nine clean sheets. Even I can't moan about that record.
Hopefully that continues into 2026 and, more importantly, over the summer during the World Cup.
